‘Star Wars Outlaws’ Launches Major Stealth Mechanics Update After Player Backlash, New DLC Revealed Featuring Lando Calrissian

Ubisoft has released a major update to open-world game “Star Wars Outlaws” in response to the widespread issues players had with the game’s stealth mechanics and other gameplay features.

The “Outlaws” publisher also unveiled the title’s first downloadable content expansion, “Wild Card,” which heavily stars “Star Wars” character Lando Calrissian (who is featured in the “Outlaws” base game) joining “Outlaws” lead Kay Vess for a new adventure.

The main game update comes just as “Outlaws” became available for users on online game distributor Steam on Thursday.

Following the “softer than expected” sales for “Star Wars Outlaws” after its Aug. 30 release, Ubisoft said its development teams were “currently fully mobilized to swiftly implement a series of updates to polish and improve the player experience in order to engage a large audience during the holiday season to position ‘Star Wars Outlaws’ as a strong long-term performer.”

Per Ubisoft’s Thursday announcement, improvements in the new “Star Wars Outlaws” game update include:

  • Notable updates to stealth and combat that allow players greater choice in how they approach each quest including using stealth or reaching for their blaster, even in syndicate territories in cities.

  • Enemy AI and detection improvements, with players being notified when they’re being detected and can choose to escalate or change tactics to remain in stealth. Enemies will also now be more tactical as they use cover and seek better combat lines.

  • Enemy weak points have been added to reward strategic gameplay, which if targeted can trigger explosions or defeat enemies in spectacular new ways.

  • Re-tuned Kay’s blaster and pickup weapons to improve the combat experience, including being able to carry two handed weapons in more situations including using ladders or grapple points.

  • Animations in dialogue scenes, the option to toggle off the cinematic lens, the visibility of distant lights and much more have been added to improve the experience across the galaxy.
