Spiritual healer charged with sex assaults

A self-proclaimed spiritual healer has been charged with drugging, raping and sexually assaulting women on the Gold Coast.

The man, aged in his 50s, allegedly lured women to a "spiritual healing ceremony" at his Southport apartment.

Two of his alleged victims, women aged 21 and 23, visited the premises for a cleansing ceremony around 10pm on Friday.

It will be alleged both lost consciousness after being given stupefying and hallucinogenic substances.

Police will allege the healer raped and assaulted the 23-year-old, causing neck and facial injuries.

The 21-year-old later raised the alarm, leading to the healer's arrest.

Police also allege the healer used the same scam to assault another two women in Broadbeach last year.

On September 19, a 21-year-old woman was allegedly stupefied and raped.

Almost a month later, a 22-year-old woman was drugged and sexually assaulted during a ceremony.

The Southport man has been charged with four counts of stupefying to commit an indictable offence, rape, sexual assault and supplying dangerous drugs.

He is also charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and contravening an order about information necessary to access data stored electronically.

The accused man has been refused bail and remanded in custody until at least March 14.

Investigators are appealing for other potential victims or witnesses to come forward.
