Social Media Giggles At Congress' Reaction To Matt Gaetz's Absence
Former Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz was the subject of much mockery Friday after the acting House clerk announced that “the honorable Matt Gaetz of the state of Florida” had sent a letter saying he would not serve in the 119th Congress.
Gaetz resigned from Congress in November shortly after President-elect Donald Trump nominated him as attorney general, but he later withdrew from consideration.
Not long afterward, the House Ethics Committee released a report that found “substantial evidence” that Gaetz had violated House rules “prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, impermissible gifts, special favors or privileges, and obstruction of Congress.”
Considering that sterling resume, it isn’t a surprise that the clerk’s announcement drew cheers from some members of Congress ― and on social media.
Telling that Matt Gaetz's absence got more applause than Mike Johnson's nomination. 😂

That's a win for all the young female staffers. One less predator around.

The fact that there was a round of applause at Matt gaetz not serving in congress is a good indicator of how much of a piece of shit he is.

It's absurd to think a president-elect would have the audacity to nominate Matt Gaetz, with all the questions pertinent to his unethical behavior, to serve as Attorney General... just sayin'... -DW #democracy#freedoms#Constitution#ILoveAmerica

However, many folks questioned the House clerk’s description of Gaetz as “honorable.”
Please note that there is nothing honorable about Matt Gaetz.

"Dishonourable" would have been a more appropriate description for him.

I erupted in laughter when he referred to him as honorable 😏

Matt Gaetz and “honorable” do not belong in the same sentence

Since Gaetz’s new show on the One America News Network debuted Thursday night, one person wondered if he would actually report on the ritual humiliation.
I wonder if Matt Gaetz is going to report on the applause he got for leaving Congress. pic.twitter.com/ei6vLiQQZu
