Social media erupts after Trump's 'meltdown' speech

Social media has erupted following Donald Trump’s latest public address, where he made baseless allegations about the vote counting process.

Trump claimed that he will win if "legal votes" are counted, and alleged that local election officials are working to hand the victory to Joe Biden.

"If you count the legal votes I easily win," he said.

"If you count the illegal votes they can try to steal the election from us."

Trump made the claims without offering supporting evidence.

He cited several legal cases around the country, where his campaign has alleged that Republican observers were not allowed to view the counting process.

Twitter quickly exploded with comments about the speech, with many angered by Trump’s rhetoric.

CNN’s Daniel Dale deemed Trump’s series of lies “absolutely appalling and anti-democratic”.

Joe Biden tweeted following Trump’s first appearance since Wednesday, saying “no one is going to take our democracy away from us”.

To which some declared that Trump is an “unabashed liar and sore loser to the bitter end”.

Ted Lieu also condemned Trump’s speech saying it was the “most disgraceful” in modern history, and said he hoped Republicans would condemn the president.

“Okay, here we are again in the position where we are again in the unusual position of not only interrupting the president of the United States, but correcting the president of the United States,” MSNBC’s Brian Williams said.

“There are no illegal votes that we know of.

“There has been no Trump victory that we know of.”

CNN carried the briefing, but warned that it would likely contain misinformation.

On Twitter someone shared a series of supers CNN used throughout the address, which included “Trump complains that mail-in votes are being counted” and “Without any evidence, Trump says he’s being cheated’.

“OMG I swear to God whoever wrote that caption for CNN is a f**king legend,” someone said in reference to the mail-in votes super.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper’s sent Twitter into a frenzy after he called Trump an “obese turtle”, though not everyone was impressed.

“That is the President of the United States,” Cooper said.

“That is the most powerful person in the world and we see him like an obese turtle on his back flailing in the hot sun, realising his time is over.”

On Twitter, someone remarked Cooper is always “absolutely ruthless”, as many expressed their admiration for the anchor, however not everyone was impressed.

Some were upset with Cooper fat shaming the president.

“There's so many other ways to call out the Cheeto in Chief that don't resort to fatphobia,” someone tweeted.

“Can you please not celebrate what Anderson Cooper said?”

“I am absolutely disgusted by the fat shaming coming from @andersoncooper ,@CNN and everyone who is a part of #obeseturtle trending,” someone else said.

“The president's horribleness isn't body related, I assure you,” someone else said.

‘Trump Meltdown’ trends as people declare he is ‘finished’

While “Anderson Cooper” was trending on Twitter, so was “Trump Meltdown’.

After Trump’s address, where he appeared to seem defeated, some people suggested he was unravelling, as it looks likely Joe Biden will be victorious in the 2020 election.

“Trump seemed so defeated as he tried to blatantly undermine our democracy,” one person said after the address.

“It won't work. Democracy is stronger than that and Donald Trump is finished.”

“We are watching the unraveling of a naked emperor who, for the first time, is realising he’s standing in front of the world without any clothes,” one person quipped on Twitter.

Another person on Twitter, who judging by their previous tweets is a Trump supporter, called for him to “keep pushing” after saying he looked “defeated not cheated”.

Trump supporters encourage him to keep fighting

Of course, the president’s supporters also shared their thoughts to social media following the speech.

“Mr President, we hear you loud & clear. We know you are fighting hard for us. I thank you for all you are doing to preserve election integrity,” one said.

“God knows, good will prevail. Praying for you my President!”

Vice President Mike Pence was nowhere to be seen during the president’s address, though he did tweet in support of him afterwards.

While other Trump supporters liked his speech, while others just claimed they “love” Trump.

“It was a good speech; I just hope Trump wins because I can't fathom what this nation would become under Biden,” one supporter said.

Hilary Clinton video comes back to haunt Trump

While Trump claimed the system was railing against him, a video of Hilary Clinton outlining how Trump reacts to losing is making the rounds.

In the video from 2016 debate, Clinton, who won the popular vote in 2016 but lost to Trump, explains how Trump liked to claim things are “rigged” when they don’t go his way.

“Every time Donald thinks things are not going in his direction, he claims whatever it is, is rigged against him,” Clinton says.
