'Disgraceful': Snake catcher shares photo of 'horrific' scene spotted during walk

A snake handler has taken to Facebook to share his fury after being sent photos of a common tree snake that had been killed with a rock.

“What an absolute disgrace,” Stu from Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers captioned the photos on Thursday.

“Someone has decided to throw a large rock on top of this harmless common tree snake killing it,” he continued.

The first image, taken in Aura, Queensland, shows a small snake with a large rock on its head. In the second image, the snake’s crushed head can be seen.

“Some people seriously need to have a good hard look at themselves. Absolutely disgraceful,” Stu wrote.

The snake catcher cautioned people that killing snakes is illegal and people can face huge fines.

“Not only that it is completely unnecessary,” he continued.

“Education is the key, if everyone understood how snakes work they would understand that they don’t mean us any harm, unless provoked of course”.

Followers of Stu’s Facebook group were horrified by the images.

“Stupidity. Cruelty and whoever did this needs to be educated on snakes,” one person said, agreeing with Stu.

“Poor thing. They are so timid, it would just slither away from you,” another wrote.

“Aww, that’s disgraceful. I’m not a snake person but seriously tree snakes are beautiful,” a third said.
