Snake catcher captures moment python slowly devours chicken
A snake has been filmed devouring a chicken whole in a barn on the Gold Coast.
Gold Coast and Brisbane Snake Catcher shared a video of a 2.5-metre carpet python swallowing the chook at a property in Clagiraba.
The snake, wrapped tightly around the bird, has its jaws fully open as it slowly kills the chicken.
Snake catcher Tony Harrison notes the python seems completely unaware at the commotion going on around it.
Over two videos, the process takes more than an hour.
The chicken’s feet at one stage are seen hanging from the python’s mouth as it finishes its meal.
Mr Harrison later told Yahoo7 the snake had a big appetite.
“That big old fella had been knocking off one chook a week,” he said.
“There was a second one in the barn too but he was mainly eating rats and mice so the homeowner asked that we leave him alone.”
The snake catcher added while the video might be shocking to some people he sees snakes eating chickens in a similar manner “all the time”.
