Six more deaths from COVID, 2,553 new cases in Singapore

SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Monday (18 October) confirmed 2,553 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore, bringing the country's total case count to 150,731 as well as six more deaths due to the disease.

Monday marks the 29th day in a row with fatalities from COVID-19 reported in Singapore, with a total of 138 people here having succumbed to it thus far this month.

The 234th to 239th COVID-19 deaths in Singapore are all Singaporeans: four were men and two were women aged between 78 and 93 years. Amongst them, four had been unvaccinated against COVID-19, one had been partially vaccinated and one had been vaccinated. All of them had various underlying medical conditions.

Amongst those who have died over the last 28 days, 25.5 per cent were fully vaccinated and 74.5 per cent were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

Of the new cases, 2,008 are in the community, 544 are in the migrant worker dormitories and one is imported.

The MOH is monitoring six large clusters with new cases. Among them are Bukit Batok Home for the Aged with eight new cases and 52 in total, United Medicare Centre (Toa Payoh) with two new cases and 128 in total, and MWS Christalite Methodist Home with one new case and 110 in total.

Over the last 28 days, of the 71,834 infected individuals, 98.6 per cent had no or mild symptoms, 1.1 per cent required oxygen supplementation, 0.1 per cent required intensive care unit (ICU) care, and 0.2 per cent has died.

As of Monday, among all COVID-19 community cases who have been onboarded or admitted, 15,132 (72.4 per cent) cases are undergoing home recovery. 3,209 (15.3 per cent) cases are in community care facilities, 858 (4.1 per cent) cases are in COVID-19 treatment facilities, and 1,714 (8.2 per cent) COVID-19 patients are currently warded in hospital. Among the latter group, 337 cases require oxygen supplementation and 67 are in the ICU.

As of Sunday, about 9.64 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered under the national vaccination programme. Some 4.62 million have received at least one dose of the vaccine, with some 4.6 million having completed the full vaccination regimen.

To date, about 780,000 eligible individuals have been invited to receive their booster doses – 588,596 of them have received their booster shots while another 83,000 have booked their appointments.

Separately, 226,702 doses of other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing (WHO EUL) have been administered as of Sunday, covering 118,214 individuals.

This means that 84 per cent of the population have completed their full regimen or received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and 85 per cent have received at least one dose.
