Six alpacas shot dead in 'disturbing act of animal cruelty'

Six alpacas have been shot and killed at a property in Queensland’s Southern Downs region in what police are describing as a disturbing act of animal cruelty.

Police were called to a Glen Aplin property on Saturday after the owner discovered five of his animals dead and another critically injured. It was later euthanised.

“Disturbingly this is the second incident of shooting deaths involving alpacas on rural properties with seven killed at Lyra last September,” Senior Constable Jim Ellis said on Sunday.

It’s believed the animals were shot on Wednesday or Thursday using a small calibre firearm.
