Sinkhole threatens to swallow up Sydney family's home

A Sydney family fear they may lose their home after a huge sinkhole opened up on their driveway.

Tony told Nine’s A Current Affair he has been left with a $150,000 repair bill for the home of his parents Emilia and Bill and their driveway.

“It’s just a nightmare,” he said.

The couple have been living in the home for 50 years.

Their home began cracking and a two-metre sinkhole appeared in their driveway after a construction company began works on an apartment building next door.

The company went bust during construction, according to ACA.

Coplex Constructions, run by Danny Ibrahim, took over the works. They weren’t the ones who created the sinkhole but discovered voids under the driveway.

When asked if Mr Ibrahim took over a “lemon” he replied, “of course we did”.

But Tony claims the previous builders saw the sinkhole and left, believing it too costly to fix.

“It’s not fair on us, it’s not our sinkhole,” Tony said, adding it will cost $150,000 to fix the driveway and his parent’s home.

When asked who would pay for the work, Mr Ibrahim said the bill would be paid by the developer of the apartment block.

Coplex Constructions has been contacted for comment.

Earlier this month Mascot Towers was evacuated over cracks appearing.

The owners face spending $1 million on repairs.
