SINGAPORE – Executive chef at two-Michelin-starred restaurant Re-Naa in Norway, Mathew Leong, is the first Singaporean to be featured under the "Arts & Culture" category in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe 2023 list.
The list, released on Tuesday (7 March), features 300 entrepreneurs, leaders and trailblazers from 32 European countries under the age of 30. According to Forbes, they are bold, visionary young leaders who have persevered and thrived despite a tough environment marred by the Ukraine war, rocketing inflation, supply chain disruption, and more.
Since becoming Re-Naa's executive chef in February 2022, the 27-year-old has led the restaurant to be ranked as Norway's best by Dagens Naeringsliv, a national paper recognised for its highly acclaimed food coverage. He also helped grow the restaurant's revenue by 15 per cent to more than US$4 million in 2022.
Leong started his career in Norway at the age of 21 when he joined Re-Naa as its chef de partie. He then moved to another Michelin-starred restaurant and became its head chef in 2018.
After becoming the youngest candidate to represent Singapore in the Bocuse d'Or Finals 2021, a biennial world chef championship where he was ranked 12th in the world, Leong returned to Re-Naa.
Leong will represent Singapore again in the 2024/2025 edition.
