Veteran Queensland MP Fiona Simpson has resigned from the shadow cabinet but says she will recontest her Sunshine Coast seat for the Liberal National Party.
Ms Simpson, the opposition's aboriginal affairs spokeswoman, says she made the decision to allow her to remain closer to home as her father Gordon fights cancer.
"This decision to resign from the shadow cabinet has not been easy," the Member for Maroochydore said in a statement on Thursday.
"However I have made it so I can devote more time to caring for a seriously ill member of my family."
Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls thanked the former Speaker of the House for her contribution to the LNP, which valued "service and family".
"Of her many strengths, Fiona has long championed the importance of family and her unselfish decision today reflects that," he said.
Member for Chatsworth Steve Minnikin will fill the shadow cabinet vacancy left by Ms Simpson.
Member for Gympie Tony Perrett will replace Mr Minnikin as deputy opposition whip.
