WARNING – DISTRESSING CONTENT: Horrifying footage has emerged of a motorist mowing down several emus along an outback dirt road.
The damning clip shows the male driver hurtling along the barren road in a white 4WD in pursuit of a group of emus.
“F****** emus!” the man shouts.
He then begins to mow down the birds one by one before turning the camera to himself, where he can be seen laughing and cheering after striking at least 10 emus.
An RSPCA Australia spokesperson told Yahoo7 News that they are aware of the “horrific” incident yet have no information on when or where the clip was filmed, or who is involved.
“The RSPCA, like many members of the community, has today been shocked and horrified by footage released on social media, showing a man who appears to be deliberately running down a mob of emus in his car,” the spokesperson said on Thursday.
“Our staff are currently examining the footage to try and determine when and where it was filmed.”
The RSPCA urged anyone with any information over the footage’s origin to contact them immediately.
The man in the footage can be seen wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses and a green shirt while sporting a prominent moustache.
The spokesperson added that such “sickening cruelty” had no place in Australia.
“The RSPCA unequivocally condemns this type of violence, as it clearly shows a disregard for the lives of these vulnerable native animals, and raises grave concerns over this individual’s capacity for such.”
It’s not the first time a motorist has mowed down the native wildlife in Australia, after a Queensland driver was filmed striking kangaroos in January.
