A Texas singer was shot and wounded following a performance, and a suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident, authorities and witnesses said.

Jada Thomas was reportedly signing autographs after a show with The Black Academy of Arts and Letters in downtown Dallas when an audience member shot her, witnesses told NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth. Local outlet WFAA also reported, citing police, that the shooting occurred as Thomas was signing autographs.

Officers found the 26-year-old gunshot victim after responding to the scene at about 5:50 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, according to a Dallas Police Department statement shared with PEOPLE on Monday, Nov. 4.

Police said in the statement that Thomas was taken to a local hospital and was reported to be in stable condition. A suspect, identified as 26-year-old Micah Williams, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, per the statement.

“It was a packed house, people were in line getting autographs and we heard this shot,” Curtis King, founder and director of TBAAL, recalled to NBC 5. “It was unreal. It was like everything was in slow motion.”

In a post shared to Facebook on Sunday, Nov. 3, King confirmed Thomas is "going to be okay" following the shooting that occurred after a "wonderful performance."

"Pray for all of us that have been blessed by Jada's music and ministry and will continue to do so," King wrote, adding that she is "courageously strong."

Police said in the statement that they recovered a handgun and that the investigation remains ongoing. It's not clear if the two had a connection.

According to online jail records, Williams is being held in Dallas County Jail on $200,000 bond. It’s unclear if she has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on her behalf.
