'Bloody pointless': Shoppers furious at 'horrible' BWS instant win game

Shoppers have been underwhelmed by a BWS game that promised fans of the store ample opportunities to win big.

The alcohol retailer launched its BWS Cooler game earlier this month, allowing customers the daily chance to win from a selection of nearly 140,000 drinks and 20,000 novelty items.

A massive number of Australians downloaded the brand’s phone app hoping to get their hands on some prizes, but for hundreds of customers, the reality hasn’t quite lived up to the hype.

This year’s game involves “brand bucks” prizes, which awards winning customers a $3 discount on one of the brands in the promotion.

Shoppers have complained that unlike last year, these $3 prizes are expiring not long after they’re being won, giving them a limited opportunity to redeem them.

“I have two expired ones already and I didn’t think it was that close. Only a couple of days. Also I’ve had nothing for five days,” one player wrote on Facebook.

“I won $3 off Pure Blonde and didn't know it had an expiry date which ended yesterday. This year's suck. Last year you won something every day and the expiry dates weren't till the end of the promo,” another said.

Someone else described the latest promotion as “horrible” after winning $3 that expired shortly after.

“The expiry dates suck. I reckon it should have a code to allow you to pass it to others that will actually enjoy these prizes,” another wrote.

Many claimed they have “won” discounts on products that, despite the promotion running until February, have already sold out.

“I won the Jim Beam double can, but like my other ‘wins’, it too is unavailable,” one said.

“The items I’ve got ‘bucks’ for are all out of stock,” another wrote.

Several people complained about this year’s promotion paling in comparison to last year.

“Worse than last year. I don’t know why I bother scratching every day,” one person said.

“I haven’t got anything for free. Ok, a couple of dollars off, but it’s bloody pointless,” another wrote.

A BWS spokesperson said there would be some changes made to the app in coming weeks.

“The overall customer feedback has been positive for this year’s BWS Cooler and its new features – including brand bucks – however we are aware that a small number of customers have highlighted some issues,” they told Yahoo News Australia.

“For customers who are having problems redeeming prizes or the expiration dates, we would encourage them to contact our customer service team, who is more than happy to help.

“We are taking the feedback onboard and making some exciting changes to the BWS cooler, which customers will be able to notice in coming weeks.”
