Shopper blames car park crash on abandoned trolley - so who's in the wrong?

A debate has started after a Queensland woman accidentally rammed a trolley into another car while trying to park at Woolworths.

Krystal-dawn Armstrong wrote on Facebook on Monday to reach out to the owner of the car she damaged at Noosa Village Shopping Centre.

“As I reversed into the park I didn’t realise there was a trolley hiding in my blind spot I accidentally rammed the trolley into the car beside me,” she wrote.

“I didn’t have a pen or paper so I ran in to the Woolies to get them when I came out the car was gone.

“I took a photo of the car and damage. If it’s your car please direct message me it was an honest mistake I’ll pay for the damages.”

Ms Armstrong added people should put trolleys back in trolley bays and “not in the corners of spare parks”.

“I know it’s my mistake and I will pay for damages but come on there was one less than 10 metres away this entire thing could have been avoided,” she wrote.

Many Facebook users commended Ms Armstrong for not driving away, and condemned the person for not putting their trolley back.

“It’s ridiculous the amount of effort people will go through to avoid walking a few steps and putting them in the return bays!” one man wrote.

A woman added “it’s good to see good people out there”.

“Good on you,” she wrote.

Another woman added she didn’t see it as Ms Armstrong’s “mistake at all”.

“But truly as a good citizen you have done this good, right action,” she wrote.

However, not everyone was thrilled.

One man accused her of “fishing for attention”.

“Picture shows what side of car make model etc registration promptly identifies it and owner which is supposedly what you wanted to do,” he wrote.

Other comments were labelled as “arrogant” and “rude”. These have since been deleted.

Some Facebook users leapt to her defence.

“She doesn’t need a lecture on how to or not to park her car,” one woman wrote.

“I think she should be congratulated for putting it out there to contact the other person involved to rectify the situation. People astound me.”
