WARNING: DISTURBING CONTENT. A group of cyclists are lucky to be alive after they were clipped and sent flying through the air by an 81-year-old driver.
Shocking footage filmed by one member of the Yeovil Cycling Club shows the moment his fellow riders were catapulted into the air by pensioner Michael Tarrant in November.
Multiple riders were left laying motionless on the ground next to the scrapheap of bikes, as the car continues to drive off into the distance.
He has now been banned from driving for two years after he admitted to dangerous driving over the incident near the UK village of Mudford.
Martin Wallis was riding with the club when he watched his wife Sandra fly from her bike before being knocked unconscious.
“Her ribs have mended and she has largely recovered from the concussion she suffered, but has been left with bad tinnitus,” Mr Wallis told Somerset Live.
“One of the other cyclists… lost part of her ear and suffered a deep cut to her leg
“All of us have experienced flashbacks of the incident and are still spooked by cars passing close from behind.“
Shaun Howells, who was the first paramedic on the scene took to Twitter, pleading with drivers to be more careful around cyclists.
I was 1st Paramedic on scene at this job, Although some are still suffering both mentally & physically, I’m so surprised we didn’t have more serious injuries. They are very lucky.
PLEASE DRIVE WITH CARE & respect ALL other road users. The roads aren’t just for you!! #DriveSafe https://t.co/ADNGCtUut6
