Large shark yanks surfer off his board at popular beach

A shark warning has been issued off the coast of Western Australia after a surfer was pulled off his board by a shark on Sunday morning.

The man was surfing at Toms Surf break, Hamersley Pool in North Beach, around 10.45am when he grabbed by a 1.5 metre bronze whaler shark.

The surfer did not sustain any injuries, the state government’s Shark Smart website reported, though his leg rope was damaged.

WA’s Water Police were notified after the incident.

Officers from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development have since attended the beach and are now conducting patrols to assess the situation.

Shark Smart urged people to take extra care if swimming in the Hamersley Pool Beach area.
