Shark fear shuts WA beaches for a month

A stretch of popular surf beach in Western Australian has been shut since last month due to fears decomposing whale carcasses will attract sharks to the area.

Redgate Beach, Hamelin Headland to the northern end of Cosy Corner Beach and Contos Springs to Grace Road at Boranup Beach in the Margaret River region will remain closed until at least May 24.

Beaches in the region have been shut since April 24 as it is possible the decomposing carcasses will attract sharks close to the shore, and warning signs have been put in place.
