'I was shaking and crying': Cancer patient 'terrified' after doorstep robbery
A cancer patient says she was left terrified when she was robbed on her doorstep, all for some spare change and her glasses.
Diane Alexander, from the Perth suburb of Koondoola, has been through the ringer recently.
She’s battled epilepsy, and two bouts of cancer, and now an attack on her front doorstep that’s left her too scared to go out.
The frail 55-year-old says she’s now living in fear.
She had just returned from nearby shops and was putting her key in the front door when someone grabbed her handbag from behind.
Dependent on her walking stick, Diane says she almost lost her balance and the bag snatch left her with pain in her shoulder, but that’s just the physical cost.
“I was shaking and crying, it was terrible,” she said.
“I haven’t been down to the shops by myself since.”
Police have charged a 35-year-old man with robbery.
There was no application for bail when the man fronted court on Wednesday, so he will remain in custody until his next appearance at the end of October.
But Diane is still dealing with the emotional toll of the daylight robbery.
“No matter who you are, elderly or young, you just have to be careful,” she said.
