A woman has taken to social media to share a moment that will make you roll your eyes to kingdom come.

If you thought you were living in the 21st century, you may have to think again in the wake of the incident in which a car salesman spoke down to a woman in the most sexist way imaginable.

The woman in question was thrilled to be buying her very first car, but her trip to a New Zealand car dealership turned sour very quickly.

“My day started great,” the woman wrote.

She was ‘feeling on top of the world’ after selling her first company car and decided to celebrate with her first car purchase of her own.

A lovely receptionist handed her over to a salesperson who ‘confidently took my hand and called me madam’,

So far, so Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast, but this man was not about to make the first time buyer feel like a valued guest.

“The first thing he asked me was what was my budget,” she continued. “I confidently told him I have no budget and his reply was...”

"Maam do you think you could come back another time and bring your partner with you".

The woman, understandably floored by the presumptuous and belittling comment couldn’t believe what she had just heard.

“I was in shock and he brought me right back down to earth,” she said. “I simply turned and walked away not knowing what to say.”

She took to the social media platform looking for advice on how to approach the issue.

“I wont let this go but not sure the best thing to do,” she said.

“I am feeling very discouraged ...”

The woman’s post triggered an outpouring of support and advice online.

Most were gobsmacked that something so archaic had played out in this day and age.

“Unacceptable in this day and age. I buy cars a lot and the dealers I know would cringe at behavior like this, (sic)” wrote one woman.

“Let me at him,” said a particularly furious user. “I will show him all the data on how women purchase everything.”

“Firstly, congrats on building and selling your first business, that’s AWESOME!!” one woman wrote. “Secondly...What!?! This is outrageous.”

The overwhelming advice was to take decisive action, and nip the behaviour in the bud.

“Dear god. YOU HAVE TO WRITE IN TO THEM,” insisted one woman. “And then never go there again...”

“I would ask to buy the car but that the receptionist was the one who sold you on it and the commission should be hers,” advised another user.

“I’d be inclined to let (the dealership) know about your experience,” said another.

Looks like one sexist salesman has a reckoning headed his way.
