Simon’s reported axing back in June flew under the radar until recently, with his legal move coming on the back of Seven’s bombshell announcement that reporter of more than 25 years Melissa Doyle would be departing the network last week.

The newsreader, best known for her roles hosting Sunrise opposite David Koch for more than a decade and hosting Sunday Night for four years, made the announcement on Friday morning.

Throughout her more than two decades with the network, Melissa held presenting and hosting roles on a wide array of programs including Today Tonight, Sunrise, 7NEWS and Sunday Night .

Sunday Night was axed in October 2019, leading to speculation about Doyle’s future with the company, though at the time it was confirmed she would remain with the network in a ‘variety’ of roles.

Since the program was removed, Melissa has been hosting The Latest.
