Heartwarming end after 'bloody' baby found in wheelie bin

A baby boy who was found abandoned in a wheelie bin has been adopted by a loving family.

According to local media, baby Stefan was abandoned in a bag left in a wheelie bin the northern Serbian capital Belgrade two months ago before being found by pensioner Slobodan Cvetkovic.

“At first, I thought a cat was in the bin and I began to move the rubbish to let it out. I then noticed that a sound was coming from a bag and I opened it. There was a newborn baby inside, it was still bloody,” the resident told local media.

Shocked by the scene, he immediately ran to his nearby home, told his wife and called the emergency services.

The baby boy was taken to hospital where he was checked by doctors and found to be in a healthy state.

Meanwhile, authorities launched an investigation and managed to find a foster family.

The police managed to track down the baby’s 33-year-old mother who has been charged with the attempted murder of a newborn and could face up to five years in prison, according to local media.

The defendant said she had “no plans to defend” herself in court because she now believed what she did was unthinkable, according to reports.

The woman has an older son who is now in the custody of his father until her trial is concluded.

Meanwhile, the Serbian Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy Zoran Djordjevic has visited baby Stefan’s new foster home to make sure he is “adapting well to his nice surroundings”.
