Disney just announced a release date for the Freaky Friday sequel
This is not a drill, people! A sequel to Freaky Friday is *officially* coming, more than 20 years – yep, really – since the first movie was released. That’s right, the beloved teen movie starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis is back for a second instalment, and we cannot wait.
So, while we countdown to the moment this must-see movie arrives on our screens, here is everything you need to know about the Freaky Friday sequel.
When will the Freaky Friday sequel be released?
Drum roll, please... Disney has announced the Freaky Friday sequel will be released on August 8 2025.
In a collab post with the film's original stars – in which Lindsay and Jamie recreate one of the movie's most iconic scenes – Disney finally revealed to fans when they can expect the pair to reprise their roles.
"TGIF. 😱 😱," read the caption, which continued: "#FreakierFriday arrives in theaters August 8, 2025!"
Who will star in the Freaky Friday sequel?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, both Lindsay and Jamie will return to their roles as Anna and Tess Coleman – a mother and daughter who wake up one Friday in each others bodies.
We’re not sure if Chad Micheal Murray or the rest of the cast will be back, but we have our fingers crossed for a Pink Slip reunion.
What have the cast said about the Freaky Friday sequel?
In an interview with The New York Times about the original movie, Jamie said she is constantly asked about a sequel. “Something really touched a chord,” she said. “When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.’”
Lindsay added: “Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”
What could happen in a Freaky Friday sequel?
The original Freaky Friday came out all the way back in 2003, making it two decades old. As Jamie and Lindsay are reported to reprise their original roles, the new film *must* feature a time jump, which sees us join them at a different stage in their lives. Right?
When was the Freaky Friday sequel confirmed?
The Hollywood Reporter announced on 10th May that a sequel to the 2003 cult classic is in the works.
