'Selfish': Man's supermarket receipt divides opinion

A dad has been criticised after joking about his Covid lockdown grocery shop.

The UK-based dad, who uses a TikTok account under the name Jayandemmalou, posted a video of his grocery receipt with the iconic Star Wars theme.

He scrolls down mimicking the opening credits from the famous films.

“Most men in the UK will understand,” he wrote in the video caption.

Among the items on the list include eggs, soft drink, bolognese, fish cakes and frozen pizza, along with fruits and vegetables.

‘Genius’ video divides opinion

While most people found the video amusing, and one man called the use of the Star Wars music “genius”, some criticised the dad for panic buying.

One man wrote “this is why the shelves are empty”.

Another added the “unnecessary panic buying” was why many people were struggling to get essentials.

“And we wonder why we don’t have enough to go around,” one woman wrote.

The UK remains under lockdown due to a spike in cases. It’s currently due to last until mid-February.

It’s after a mutant strain became present in the community which makes Covid-19 about 70 per cent more infectious.

London declared a major incident on Friday because its hospitals were at risk of being overwhelmed.

The UK currently has more than 2.9 million active cases of coronavirus, according to Johns Hopkins University data.
