Secret affair between missing campers confirmed in explosive interview

A bombshell interview has confirmed that missing Victorian campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay were having an affair when they vanished last March.

The sister of Carol Clay spoke with 60 Minutes on Sunday, confirming the camping trip the pair had gone on was one of many.

The couple vanished in March 2020 after embarking on a camping trip in the Wonnangatta Valley in the Victorian Alps.

Wife 'not aware' of relationship

Tragically, Mr Hill's wife Robyn was unaware of the relationship her husband was having, with her having to grieve her husband as well as her relationship.

"I feel very sorry for Robyn," Ms Clay's sister Jill told the program.

“Because she found out two things at one time. One that Russell was missing and two, he was camping with someone else.”

Mr Hill's daughters confirmed they had no idea their father was having an affair until he went missing.

“It was a shock when the police mentioned something about, do we know a Carol? But that was the first we knew about it,” one of Mr Hill's daughters, Colleen said.

"We didn't know anything about him and Carol being together."

Last seen March 19

Mr Hill, 74, and Ms Clay, 73, were last heard from on March 20, 2020 while camping in the Wonnangatta Valley.

Mr Hill left his Drouin home on March 19 and picked up Ms Clay from her home in Pakenham in his white Toyota LandCruiser.

He was last heard from on March 20 when he made a call via HF radio saying he was at Wonnangatta Valley.

Ms Clay told friends she was heading away and expected to return home on March 28 or 29.
