Second body found after jetski incident on Hawkesbury River

The body of a 60-year-old man who fell off a jetski into the Hawkesbury River northwest of Sydney has washed ashore, almost one kilometre from where he went missing on the weekend.

The man was riding a jetski with two other men on Sunday morning when the trio fell into the water at Wilberforce.

A 35-year-old man was uninjured and swam to the river bank while a 49-year-old man was pulled from the water by emergency services, but couldn’t be revived.

Authorities then spent two days searching the river before the 60-year-old’s body was found on Tuesday morning “washed ashore about 800 to 900 metres from the site of the jetski incident”, NSW Police said.

The men were on a section of the river near Percy’s Place Ski Gardens on Burdekin Road when they ended up in the water.

Chief Inspector Gary Simms on Sunday described it as “heartbreaking”.

“They were a large group of friends enjoying a pretty much picture-perfect day here on the Hawkesbury,” Inspector Simms told reporters at the time.
