Search for missing 4yo Shayla Phillips enters third day in Tasmania

The desperate search for missing four-year-old Shayla Phillips in southern Tasmania has entered its third day, with additional rescue crews and resources brought in.

The State Emergency Service, Westpac Rescue Helicopter and Tasmania Police are conducting the large-scale search, which continued overnight with police sniffer dogs arriving from Victoria on Thursday.

According to The Mercury, State Emergency Services were focusing on a dam near Shayla’s home on Thursday but dive squads have so far found nothing.

Resident Tish Lynch said she's concerned by the fact rescuers continue to revisit areas already searched, as well as the potential threat of wildlife in the area.

“They’ve got snakes everywhere," Ms Lynch told the publication.

"That’s what I was worried about yesterday, because Daniel said to me ‘mum, it’s snake season.'”

Shayla has not been seen since 2.30pm on Wednesday when she was at a Stormlea Rd property playing with two dogs.

One of the dogs that went missing with the four-year-old was located around 7pm on Wednesday, around 800m from where she was last seen.

Concerns growing for Shalya's welfare

There are growing concerns for Shayla's welfare with temperatures in Stormlea dipping to around 11 degrees overnight.

"Due to the isolation and terrain in the Stormlea Road area where Shayla was last seen, a broad range of resources are continuing to be utilised to search from the air and on the ground," Inspector Hallett said in a statement.

Tasmania Police described Shayla as having long brown, curly hair and was last seen wearing pink leggings, a cream top, and gumboots.

On Thursday, Tasmanian Inspector Gavin Hallett said the search teams focused on revisiting previous search zones, broadening the search area, and bringing in additional resources.

Police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances around Shayla's disappearance.
