Search on for Indo fishing boat off Perth

A search and rescue mission is underway off the Western Australian coast after an Indonesian fishing boat made an emergency call.

Three Royal Australian Air Force planes were searching waters 670 nautical miles off Perth, the Australian Defence Force said on Saturday.

The aircraft are equipped with life rafts and emergency items.

Australian Maritime Safety Authority is leading the search and there is no suggestion the commercial fishing vessel is being used for people-smuggling.

Royal Australian Navy long-range frigate HMAS Anzac was due to arrive on the scene on Saturday afternoon.
