'Right at me': Seagull flies into teen's face on slingshot ride

A teenager has had a close encounter with a seagull while mid-air on an amusement park slingshot ride.

Thirteen-year-old Kiley Holman was with her friend Georgia at Morey's Piers Adventure Pier in the US state of New Jersey earlier this month when the pair decided to go on the ride, NBC10 reported.

As the girls were shot up into the air, flying towards Kiley was a seagull, she told the news station.

It was heading in the opposite direction but then turned, and flew right into her face, she said.

"It was going the opposite way and came right back at me," she said.

A video caught the moment the bird latched on to Kiley. While shocked, she manages to maintain her composure and pull the bird off her.

"I didn't want to fall out of the ride so I waited for it to spin over once and then I quickly grabbed it and threw it off," Kiley told NBC10, admitting it was likely her love for animals which allowed her to stay calm.

"I always wanted to catch a seagull," she said.

"I guess that's my way of catching it."

Both Kiley and the bird were okay and the video went viral when it was shared to YouTube by Georgia's father, racking up over 594,000 views.

"Seagulls are usually not included with the ride but she handled it like a champ," Morey's Piers & Beachfront Water Parks wrote on Facebook.

"You go gull friend and we’re glad to see you’re ok."
