'He screamed and went down': Man fights off aggressive coyote with coffee thermos

A man has used a coffee thermos to fend off a wild coyote trying to attack his dog.

Ben Pool, of Lake County, Florida, noticed his dog had come face to face with a coyote near his home on Friday, NBC affiliate WESH2 reports.

Mr Pool managed to separate the pair, but he claims the coyote then attacked his legs.

“I smashed him in the side of the head with the cup,” Mr Pool told the station.

“He came at me again, I smashed him again and then he jumped up at my face, when he did that I jumped back, smacked him in the side of the head, he screamed and he went down.”

Mr Pool added he tried to scare the animal off but it just grew more aggressive so he went into his car and drew a gun.

He fired about four times and then ran the coyote over.

The Florida resident doesn’t face any legal issues from the state government over his decision to kill the coyote.

He wants more done to stifle the coyote population in the area.

His dog is being checked for rabies.

Earlier this month, a jogger managed to fight off and kill a mountain lion with his bare hands after the big cat attacked him on a trail in Colorado.

Travis Kauffman later revealed how he killed the wild animal.
