PM scolds reporters for social distancing fail at press conference

Scott Morrison scolded a group of reporters for not practising proper social distancing while he announced Australia’s three-step plan to ease coronavirus restrictions.

Taking to the podium for questions on Friday after Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy addressed the media, the prime minister noted the large crowd of reporters in a quick quip.

“There’s quite a few more of you. You’re a bit bunched up, I’m noticing,” he said, urging them to move apart while frowning.

The journalists could be heard chuckling and shifting their position.

Mr Morrison debuted the country’s three-stage COVID-19 exit plan during the press conference, which was held after a national cabinet meeting.

Australia's first phase of relaxing coronavirus restrictions will reopen cafes, restaurants and shops, with public gatherings of up to 10 people also allowed.

Under the first step, people will work from home only if it suits and home visits of up to five people will be allowed.

States and territories to determine which level they adopt.
