Couple mistake million-dollar Lotto win for $750 windfall
A Perth couple who thought they had bagged a $750 Lotto prize were stunned to learn they were actually millionaires.
The pair, from Joondalup, picked up the Saturday Lotto ticket for June 6 from the Grand Boulevard Lotteries Kiosk.
They initially believed they had won $750, but when they re-checked the ticket, they realised they had all the winning numbers and were actually $1.23 million richer.
“We kept checking over and over again and that’s when it clicked – we could actually be millionaires,” the couple said, according to a Lotterywest Media release.
The couple are planning on using their winnings to help family members who are out of work.
“Everybody in the family gets a helping hand,” the couple said.
The pair aren’t the only lucky ones, with a man from Perth’s northern suburbs winning another “outstanding” Saturday division-one prize.

The man had no idea he had won more than $500,000 in May until Lotterywest gave him a ring.
“Lotterywest called me, but I thought it was a scam at first,” he said.
“I was ready to tell him where to go until he asked me to check my account, that’s when I started to shake.”
All available profits Lotterywest makes from every jackpot, draw and ticket goes to the Lotterywest COVID-19 Relief Fund, aimed at helping members of the community recover from the deadly pandemic.
