An increased police presence in the community is expected in Sweetgrass First Nation for an undetermined amount of time because RCMP are investigating a death.

On Friday, a deceased man was found in a home on the First Nation, which is about 33 kilometres west of North Battleford, police said in a Saturday news release.

His next of kin have been contacted by victims services, according to the release.

The Saskatchewan RCMP major crimes unit, Battleford RCMP, and a forensic identification unit are staying in the community for an undetermined amount of time to continue the investigation, interview people and gather information to help create a timeline of events in relation to the man's death.

An autopsy has been ordered as well, through the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.

RCMP say more information will be provided once it is available.
