A child is in critical condition after being found in a swimming pool, Sarnia police say.

According to police, they responded to a report of a missing 4-year-old child around 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police say they requested assistance from Sarnia Fire and Rescue Services and located the child without vital signs in a swimming pool on the property, in the area of Hillcrest Drive and Rutherglen Drive.

The child remains in critical condition in a pediatric critical care unit. While the child was being transported to hospital, several intersections were temporarily closed to facilitate faster travel.

In a media release, police said they conducted an investigation and no criminal charges are pending. No further information has been released in order to protect the privacy of the family.
