Fire at Wingfield oil waste depot

Fifty firefighters are tackling a blaze at an oil waste depot at Wingfield, in Adelaide's northern suburbs.

The fire is in a large building on Wing St containing flammable liquids, a Metropolitan Fire Service spokesperson said.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area, as huge plumes of smoke are making it difficult to see.

The smoke is due to a fire in a large building containing multiple flammable liquids at a waste oil depot on Wing Street at Wingfield.

Adelaide Now reports that people within 150m of the fire are being evacuated and there are reports of spot fires breaking out nearby, including one on Glasgow St.

“Those travelling in the area should exercise caution as smoke may reduce visibility," MFS Commander, Roy Thompson, said.

“Residents in the area are advised to close doors and windows until the smoke passes,” Commander Thompson said.

Properties to the east of the depot are reportedly under most threat because of the wind direction.

7News Adelaide is reporting that vehicles parked near the building have gone up in flames but there are no reports yet of any injuries.

Firefighters are struggling to control the blaze and are reportedly facing water pressure problems.
