John Riddell presents Adelaide’s top rating Seven News on weeknights alongside Jane Doyle.

John began his media career in Adelaide’s suburban newspaper group, Messenger Newspapers, and later travelled the world as a correspondent, working in radio and television as a police reporter, news producer and newsroom Chief of Staff.

John has covered a range of South Australian stories from tragedies such as the Ash Wednesday bushfires to the Truro and Snowtown murders. John has thoroughly enjoyed interviewing Prime Ministers and celebrities including Gough Whitlam, Bob Hawke, John Howard, Sir Cliff Richard and Roger Moore.

One of John’s television highlights was departing the Nine Network 25 years ago to join Channel Seven. John has a passion for sport and was thrilled to be invited to work as one of six specialist reporters on Seven’s award winning Sydney 20000 Olympic Games coverage, and was trackside when Cathy Freeman won gold.

Recently John reported from London and Scotland as he took viewers on board for a special look at the oldest surviving clipper ship in the world – the City of Adelaide– and her historic journey back to Adelaide.

John also spent seven years travelling around South Australia promoting the diverse local tourism destinations via the local travel program Discover, as well as hosting Seven’s The World Around Us.

John presented Adelaide’s weekend Seven News for almost 16 years before moving to weeknight Seven News alongside Jane Doyle in 2005.

In 2014 Seven News won the ratings for a 14th straight year– the longest winning streak for a news service in Adelaide.

John is an ambassador for Novita Children’s Services and has had an affiliation with the group for more than 12 years – helping to raise $560,000 for Novita via the Mighty River Run.

Outside of work, John enjoys all water sports, particularly surfing.

He’s also a keen golfer, tennis player and Ambassador for the Port Adelaide Football Club.

John is married to Heather and they have two children, Erinand Nicholas.
