Aussie woman suffers horrific burns in freak cooking accident in Thailand
An Adelaide couple has made an emergency dash to Thailand to be at their bedside of their daughter, who has suffered horrific burns in a freak cooking accident.
Victoria Nikoloudis has devoted the past two years to volunteering at orphanages and schools in Thailand, but now she is the one needing life-saving assistance.
The 37-year-old was badly burned when a pot of oil caught fire in her Chiang Mai apartment.
"It's traumatising knowing that I'm here and can't do anything to help," her twin sister Nicole Taverna told 7 News.
Ms Taverna said the burning oil spilt on Victoria, who then slipped over, her clothes catching fire.
The South Australian has spend the past week in intensive care in a Thai hospital but her condition is not improving.
"She's also now suffering malnutrition and severe dehydration, she's been undergoing daily surgery," her sister said.

Ms Nikoloudis' mum and dad have flown to her bedside, but they now want to bring her home for treatment at Royal Adelaide Hospital's burns unit.
The bills are racking up, with an average day in hospital costing $6000.
A privately chartered Medivac flight costs around $140,000.
The family claims there has been an insurance mix-up and they only expect to receive around $4000.
They have started a GoFundMe campaign to help make up the difference.
