Gunman on the run after 'opening fire' during road rage exchange

Police are hunting a gunman who allegedly opened fire on a car during a road rage attack in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.

A minor road rage attack between two drivers quickly escalated when one man allegedly pulled out a knife on nearby Montague Road around 3.15pm on Wednesday.

The victim says at that point he drove off but then decided to follow the driver to report him to police –that’s when he alleges the man in the BMW pulled out a gun.

"I take off, two more cracks (gun shots), he hit my car,” the victim told 7 News.

“Normally my car f***s up when I put the gas down, so I think angels were above us."

He quickly flagged down police and explained what had unfolded before forensic experts spent hours combing through his car for evidence.

One bullet appears to have pierced through the rear wheel arch.

Police located the suspect’s BMW but the gunman is still on the run.

"A number of police patrols converged on the area and the suspect vehicle was located at a short time later at a Wynn Vale address," a police statement read.

"Police enquiries are continuing and it is believed the wanted man is now driving a 2001 black Ford AU utility, registration number S861BES."

If anyone witnessed any suspicious activity or has any information that may assist police or they spot the Ford utility, they are urged to call the Police Assistance Line on 131444 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page.
