The victim's nephew Bick Singh told 7 News the pair had "big hearts".

“For them to drive over the median strip and try to get my uncle to respond and everything else, it just goes to show they're great Samaritans," he said.

Mr Hunt said he wished he could have done more to save the man.

“If we had a chance obviously to save your uncle's life we were there. We did everything we could,” he said.

Mr Sheppard added: “Still in the back of my mind just seeing him laying there [it’s] something I don't want to experience ever again.”

The victim himself was a good Samaritan who helped countless people within the Indian community.

“I know he's up there now and I'm sure he's looking down on these guys saying ‘I really appreciate you guys for trying but unfortunately I was gone at the time of impact’,” Mr Singh told 7 News.

Police investigations are continuing.
