Adelaide Crows can't fly home after Virgin glitch grounds passengers

The Adelaide Crows are among a number of stranded passengers left waiting at Melbourne Airport after a computer glitch.

The Crows, along with a number of deflated fans, were due to return to South Australia this afternoon following Saturday’s Grand Final loss to Richmond.

But their homecoming has been delayed after Virgin Australia suffered an issue with its check-in systems.

Also caught up in check in meltdown were Melbourne Storm fans who hoped to fly over to ANZ Stadium in New South Wales for the NRL final against the Cowboys.

It's anyone's guess if the last minute passengers will make it for 7.30pm kick off.

Witnesses are reporting dozens of flights have been delayed, with lines of anxious passengers spilling over to the international check in area.

“We are currently experiencing a disruption to our check-in systems due to an Optus technical issue,” a statement from the airline read.

“We are manually checking passengers in and therefore there will be delays to flights today. We recommend that anyone who is due to fly with us this afternoon allow extra time for check-in at the airport.”

The airline apologised, saying it was working with Optus to fix the issue.
