Adelaide cops stage fake traffic stop for groom-to-be

An Adelaide dentist has staged a fake police traffic stop to distract his girlfriend long enough to get down on one knee and pop the question.

Michael Yuan had seen a similar staged proposal online and after speaking to one of his nurses with a brother at South Australia Police, decided to set one up himself.

Footage shows Mr Yuan's girlfriend Katie appearing confused as she's asked to step out of her car to answer some questions during the routine traffic stop.

"We're just doing some checks on the vehicle, so I'll just get you to hop out of the vehicle for me," the officer can be heard asking Katie in the video.

She is then asked whether Mr Yuan is her boyfriend and told he might be in "lifetime trouble."

As the two officers take Katie away from the vehicle for mock questioning, Mr Yuan gets down on one knee behind her with an engagement ring.

After Katie is prompted to turn around, she spends a few moments in shock before breaking down in tears and embracing Mr Yuan.

After the staged proposal, the couple snapped a smiling engagement photo with the police officers. The fake traffic stop was cleared with South Australia police.

The couple of six years plan to have their wedding in December.
