Grandfather killed in birthday motorbike crash was riding for the first time

The family of a grandfather who died in a motorbike crash on his birthday on Saturday said he was riding it for the first time.

David Miller was celebrating his 48th birthday and couldn’t wait to try out a gift from his eldest son.

But Mr Miller lost control of the Honda and his a median strip before plowing into a tree on Mawson Lakes Boulevard.

He was killed instantly.

His daughter, Jasmine, said the Parafield Gardens family are heartbroken.

“He was a great dad, everyone loved him,” she said.

“Just a fun guy to hang around.

“I just don’t know what I’m going to do anymore.”

Nearby residents say the stretch is notorious for hoon riding despite the limit being just 60km/h.

SA Police are still investigating whether Mr Miller was speeding.

One of Mr Miller’s friends Duncan Campbell said he was speechless hearing the news of his close mate’s death.

“It knocked me for six, words can’t say anything,” he said.

“It’s one of the hardest things you’ll go through I think.”

Mr Miller’s death is the eighth from a motorbike crash this year in South Australia compared to just three at the same time in 2016.
