Dying man misses out on lung transplant due to airport mix-up

A dying man from Gawler who missed out on a lung transplant in Sydney due to a mix up at Adelaide airport is determined to make sure it never happens again.

He's helped change an airline's procedures so patients on the waiting list can be fast-tracked.

The pulmonary fibrosis sufferer's only hope is a new set of lungs.

He tragically missed an opportunity in Sydney last Thursday when Qantas couldn't find the booking made by his hospital - so the organs went to someone else.

Garry doesn't want to dwell on who was responsible for his heartbreaking mix-up.

He is just pleased at Qantas has vowed to provide a direct contact number for patients like him to ensure next time they get on the plane.
