'No justice for Nicole': Family of horror crash victim devastated by short sentence

The heartbroken Adelaide family of Nicole Tucker are devastated by the lenient sentence given to the 15-year-old hoon driver responsible for the horror expressway crash.

He could be out of jail in ten months.

"There will never be justice for us, never", Nicole's brother Kent Thiele said as he left court, flanked by Nicole's husband.

It was not the sentence they wanted to hear.

"We were hoping for some justice today," Kent said. "Don't think we got it, and maybe we never would."

Mrs Tucker died when the killer driver slammed into her car on the expressway last October, causing the car to burst into flames.

The court heard the car was travelling at 160 km/h just seconds before the collision.

He and his passenger then ran from the accident scene.

The sentencing judge described the boy's driving as "simply horrifying" and told him: "The choices you made have had a devastating effect on people's lives".

Sentenced to a minimum of 18 months in jail, with time served he will be eligible for parole in 10 months.

"Obviously nothing's going to bring our dearest Nicole back to us, so we'll mourn her loss for the rest of our lives," Mrs Tucker's brother said.

Judge Tracy said the offences were at the extreme end of seriousness and given the boy's already long history of offending it was appropriate to sentence him as an adult.

It's unclear if the prosecution will appeal against the sentence.
