‘Only a little knife’: Store customer takes down armed robber with wrestling move

A store customer has told 7 News how he used a wrestling move to subdue an armed robber at Huntfield Heights in Adelaide.

The successful citizen's arrest was captured on security cameras but Jamie Daddow still insists he is no hero.

Armed with a knife, the robber came to blows with shopkeeper Charlie over cigarettes before ex-security guard Mr Daddow walked through the door.

“I saw the knife go up and him grabbing smokes (cigarettes),” Mr Daddow told 7 News.

“It was only a little knife and he (the robber) is a little fella, so to me it was like playing around with one of my kids.”

At six-foot tall and 140kgs, the robber was no match for Mr Daddow, who said he wrapped his left arm underneath the robber’s chin into a ‘full nelson’ wrestling hold.

“Once I grabbed him and held him there for a couple of minutes he was like ‘alright I know it, I’m done, I’m crusted’.”

Shop owner Charlie says he is eternally grateful to Mr Daddow: “He is a hero.”

However, Mr Daddow insisted he is not a hero as “any other normal person would do this.”

Even as police were on the way, Mr Daddow spoke to the assailant about making better life choices, even offering him a bottle of water.

“I sat him down and told him ‘these are really stupid options’,” added Mr Daddow.
