'Terrifying to watch': The moment a woman jumped from burning building

A woman was forced to jump from her second-storey window, as a fire broke out in an Adelaide unit complex.

Two other people were trapped inside the burning Salisbury Downs unit block, with fire crews racing up ladders to rescue the duo.

“I looked outside, I could actually see people hanging out the front windows,” one witness said.

“There were people trying to get out. I could hear people screaming: ‘I can’t get out, I can’t get out’.”

According to police, an arsonist set fire to a mattress in the stairwell of the Amsterdam Crescent unit block.

“It was terrifying to watch,” the witness said.

“It was terrifying to think that there was somebody inside those buildings that could be burnt to death.”

Neighbours say they heard yelling and death threats shortly before the inferno broke out.

Residents are fed up with the recent crime in the area and say they are ready to move.

“The place is getting worse and worse and I would say the last six months has been a massive escalation in problems over here,” a neighbour said.
