Frightened Morphettvale residents had to be evacuated last night when the Metropolitan Fire Service feared a house fire could trigger an explosion.
Witnesses told 7 News that firefighters learned there were oxyacetylene tanks in a shed near the burning home, prompting them to evacuate every home with a 200 metre radius of the blaze.
It took 25 firefighters about an hour to bring the fire under control, with crews remaining on site overnight to ensure there were no flare ups.
The damage is estimated to be worth about $200,000.
The cause is still undetermined, however, investigators suspect it may have been caused by an electrical fault.
