Cash seizure: man charged after $140,950 found in suitcase at Perth Airport

Australian Federal Police (AFP) have seized $140,950 in cash found in a suitcase at the Perth domestic airport.

The AFP said a currency and drug detection dog gave an indication towards a suitcase belonging to Joel Humberto Castellanos, 36, from Adelaide, yesterday.

A search of the suitcase found the cash.

Castellanos has been charged with dealing in money reasonably suspected of being the proceeds of crime.

He was not required to enter a plea when he appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court today.

He was granted bail to return to Adelaide but a number of conditions were attached including that he surrender his passport and that he report to police twice weekly.

Castellanos is due to appear in court in Perth later this month.

The maximum penalty for the offence is three years' jail and/or a $30,600 fine.

Investigations are continuing.
