A group of naked beachgoers has chased down and made a citizens’ arrest on a man they believed was secretly filming them on a South Australian nudist beach.

Police were called to Maslin Beach, in Adelaide’s south, after the group of nudists confronted the man who had allegedly been using a camera hidden inside an esky.

He was described as being naked apart from an Akubra hat, aged in his late 40s or early 50s.

One of the beachgoers said he was ‘hanging out’ with friends on December 21 when they noticed the man position the esky so as it pointed towards a couple on the beach.

“A couple of my friends noticed this guy rearranging his esky and one of them said ‘are there holes in the esky?’... (and) one woman walked past and saw a video camera set up inside,” George told News Corp.

“It had this wooden setup inside where he could put this little handicam and it had three or four holes where he could position this wooden frame and put the camera inside to line up with the hole.”

Once confronted, the man moved further down the beach, only to turn the esky towards another couple.

George said a group of beachgoers then chased the man before he was surrounded by about eight people and police were called.

SA Police said officers attended the scene but released the man without charge because there was no hard evidence he was filming beachgoers.

George said the incident had left beach regulars shaken.

“I have been going down there for eight years and I have never seen anyone chasing anyone else down the beach,” he said.
