Adelaide teenager accused of shooting two neighbours with handgun

A 17-year-old boy is in custody after allegedly shooting two neighbours with a handgun in Adelaide's northern suburbs.

The boy allegedly shot another 17-year-old boy and 34-year-old man during a dispute on Hayles Road in Elizabeth Park.

SA Police Detective Inspector Krystina Koza said police were called to the property at about 8pm (CST) last night and found the two victims with gunshot wounds to their legs.

"Both men were taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital where they were treated for their injuries," Inspector Koza said.

"The 17-year-old was shot in the foot. His injuries are more serious and required an operation.

"The 34-year-old was released with a minor wound.

"We believe up to four shots were fired."

Shooting not random attack: police

Inspector Koza said it appeared it was a neighbourhood dispute that spun out of control.

She said police had recovered a handgun and charged the teenager with firearm and serious assault offences.

"It's very concerning that a 17-year-old male has hold of a handgun and has used it in this manner, however we do want to reassure the public that this is not a random attack and that the parties are all known to one another," she said.

The teenager will reappear in the Elizabeth Magistrate's Court in November.
